the title of the blog has little to do with the post, other than it was one of the funniest things i heard all weekend.
this past weekend, my company hosted an event at the last V8 race of the season in sydney, and jeff was able to join in the fun.
since we have been here, we've heard nothing but how much nicer the weather is in sydney and we were looking forward to it. turns out that it was cold and rainy in sydney, and beautiful and sunny in melbourne. just our luck.
the weekend began for me on thursday with meetings and events. jeff joined on friday evening, while there were girls belly-dancing at our dinner...not sure he knew what he was walking into.
saturday jeff went to the race track and i ran a media event with my team, later to join him at the track. he was very lucky to be able to go out on the track on a grid walk - walking amongst all of the cars, drivers, crew and grid girls.

sunday morning came early and we arrived at the track early to ensure that we got to see all of the racing festivities. after the qualifying race, the rains started....this becomes important because between qualifying and the actual race, they have several other races, including utes (exactly like el caminos), porsches, and midgie cars (hence the title of this post). the rain came in buckets. buckets. then the utes started racing. and to be honest, we feel like we got ripped off - utes racing in the rain should have been filled with skidding and skating and wrecking...but the first 4 of 10 laps were run under caution, so we saw very little of anything, other than el caminos running around the race track. boo.
the end of the race was pretty exciting, with the car in the second position crashing and taking out the third position car in the last 4 laps. our car didn't have the best race finish, but that can only mean that next year will be better.
jeff left sydney on sunday evening, and i stayed until wednesday attending more meetings. the meeting that i was in town for was with one of our customers, and it was on a house boat. yes, you read that right...i had a meeting with a large customer cruising up and down a river on a house boat. can honestly say that it's not something that i have experienced before, but hopefully will have the opportunity to do again.
